A NEW sculpture has appeared in Bishop’s Castle as part of the town’s March of the Elephants trail. The entwined elephants have been installed on a wall on the corner of Union Street and Church Street It was sculpted by Chris Groombridge and cast in Bishop’s Castle’s Jesmonite. Local residents have praised the new feature as “lovely”, “amazing” and “fabulous work”.
The March of the Elephants, a play on the Shropshire Marches, is a project to create a “world-class” elephant-inspired trail of varied artworks placed around the Bishop’s Castle. Other pieces of artwork include a giant Banksy-style elephant mural near the town hall, Winnie the Mammoth near Wintles Lane, Clive of India Elephant Crest near Bull Street, and a stained glass elephant in the town hall.
