Environmentalist and Chipko movement pioneer Sunderlal Bahuguna breathed his last on on Friday afternoon at Delhi s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a fight against COVID-19. The 94-year-old had been admitted tot he hospital on May 8 after testing positive. He had been critical since last night with his oxygen level dropping drastically. Passing away of Shri Sunderlal Bahuguna Ji is a monumental loss for our nation. He manifested our centuries old ethos of living in harmony with nature. Environmental activist Sundarlal Bahuguna, a pioneer of the Chipko Movement against deforestation in the 1970s, died in Uttarakhand this afternoon. He was 94 years old.
His death was declared by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh where he was admitted for Covid treatment, ANI reported. Mr Bahuguna died at 12.05 pm AIIMS Rishikesh Director Ravikant said.

New Delhi/ May 21 : Noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna, synonymous with the Chipko movement, on Friday passed away due to Covid-19 at the age of 94.
He was under treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh and was admitted to the hospital on May 8 after testing positive for Covid-19.
Bahuguna had been critical since last night and with his oxygen levels dropping, was shifted to the ICU.
He breathed his last at 12.05 pm on Friday, informed AIIMS director Ravikant.
