Veteran journalist and Sahitya Akademi awardee Homen Borgohain passed away on Wednesday morning at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was 88.
According to reports, Borgohain breathed his last after suffering from a cardiac arrest earlier today. He had recently returned home after recovering from Covid-19.

Guwahati, May 12 : Sahitya Akademi awardee, renowned litterateur Homen Borgohain died here on Wednesday following post-Covid-19 complications, doctors said. He was 89.
The celebrated Assamese litterateur and journalist, who breathed his last at a private hospital here, is survived by two sons. He has been separated from his wife Nirupama Borgohain, also a well-known writer and journalist, for several years.

Borgohain won the battle against Covid-19 a few days ago and was discharged from hospital last week. He reportedly fell off his bed in the wee hours on Wednesday and was rushed to the hospital. The hospital authority said that he was brought to the emergency department at 6.15 am following a cardiac arrest. “A team of cardiologists, intensivists and neurologists tried to revive him for almost 38 minutes but he failed to respond to all efforts. He was declared dead at 6.58 am,” a spokesperson of the hospital told TOI.
