SRINAGAR, Mar 3: With the ban on mining across J&K, the non-availability of construction material has taken a hit on the Government as well as private works across Kashmir and those who manage to get the minerals they are being sold at exorbitant rates.
Several contractors, who have taken up the Government, as well as the private works in Kashmir, told Excelsior that they are suffering due to the absence of raw material and that the Government is not paying any heed to their issues.
“It has all happened due to the ban that was imposed on the mining by the Government and due to which all the Government works as well as the private ones have come to a grinding halt,” Ghulam Jeelani Purza president of J&K Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCC) told Excelsior.
ANANTNAG: Doctors at the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital and the Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH), which is also associated with the GMC, on Monday held a token strike against what they termed as undue interference of revenue officials in the working of these hospitals.
The strike was held a day after Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag KK Sidha visited the MCCH on Sunday and allegedly found 16 doctors “absent” from duty. Sidha had directed the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital to explain the cause of absence of these doctors. The protesting doctors termed Sidha’s “diktat” an interference with the working of the hospitals, while maintaining that no doctor was absent. “They were only following the duty roster. There was no unauthorised absence at the hospital,” the protesting doctors maintained.

JAMMU: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, today chaired a high level meeting to review progress on major projects of Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department being executed in Jammu and Kashmir under PMDP, Centrally Sponsored Schemes and other schemes including AIIMS Jammu and AIIMS Kashmir.
