And i discovered doing my Research Within the larger story i had intended to tell. Its an unfold story, actually. Its been told in bits and pieces, but its never stitched together as a compelling historical narrative. And that story is the rise of the sudden and spectacular rise of midtown manhattan in the 1920s. Which was an urban backwater before 1919. There wasnt a single skyscraper above 42nd street. And by the end of the decade, by the end of the 1920s, almost half of new york skyscrapers were in midtown.
