ferguson. ferguson was a few streets. this is over across 80-square-mile city, 15 locations. this is much more massive than even in ferguson missouri. shomari, you were reporting in baltimore, witnessed this rioting. tell me what you saw. when we first arrived, there was massive widespread looting and what we saw was the cvs going up in flames as the gentleman just mentioned, and i must say i saw people throwing bottles, bricks other projectiles at the police officers and they actually had to push people back on north mount avenue and pennsylvania avenue. and i have to talk about in terms of the police right now, police applauding police for the restraint, but in talking to some of the business owners on the ground many of them are upset about that because they feel if police had a stronger force, if they were out before this even started when it first started at the mall and then started going to the different businesses, perhaps that could have prevented many of the businesses be
shattered glass and a lot of these business owners who are upset right now as we speak. yeah and you know shomari, because some people will say cvs is a big company, they don t have roots in baltimore, but everybody who s in that store and who works in that store is getting a paycheck and that paycheck is helping them those families, have dreams for the future. and that has been effected and not only in the cvs store, but in the check cashing store and in the liquor store and 122 cars that were burned. each and every one of those cars was owned by somebody who needed that car. exactly. i saw a lot of cars on fire last night. in fact, i posted some of the video of the cars and the video of the frustration and the looting on twitter, but more importantly, you saw a lot of folks who also had the frustration. many of them were filled with emotion after the freddie gray funeral, but some you had these small pockets of people who just, quite frankly, wanted to cause trouble, who wanted t
yesterday, monday evening, that curfew doesn t take effect until 10:00 tonight. 8:50 three-alarm fire engulfs the senior center. we ve been seeing ron allen in front of the senior center throughout the morning, what s left of that senior center. the senior center there in baltimore has been destroyed. a few hours later, 11:00, the national guard dispatched to baltimore roughly 100 soldiers. we saw some images a short time ago from tom costello guardsmen outside city hall there, winging city hall to protect it. that s a timeline jose sort of how it s all gone down so far. craig melvin thank you, good to see you. i want to bring in harris with the washington post and shomari stone. gentlemen, thank you both for being with me. hamela, i want to start with you, were you surprised that this happened in baltimore? no i wasn t surprised.
wants to live. so again, you see a very ugly situation born out of frustration. absolutely. and shomari, you also saw something very different on the street. you were talking about your social media. you tweeted out this video. and talk to me about a little bit of an unusual thing, right, a man dancing? yes. in the middle of the protest, there was a man who actually climbed on top of a delivery truck, so to speak, and he was playing michael jackson and he was dancing and everything and folks were i guess he s part of the neighborhood and he tried to use this as an opportunity to perhaps show his dance skills as though he was on the nbc show the voice, but, quite frankly, a lot of folks are just ignoring him, as well because they were really focused on the situation at hand. keep in mind you had a lot of folks throwing the rocks, the bottles, the projectiles at police officers and they were basically trying to show their frustration, a lot of folks say,
