A total of 94 per cent of primary and secondary school children in Southend returned to the classroom last week, following 7,000 rapid Covid tests. Schools returned fully on Monday 8 March and Southend Council data shows primary schools saw a 94 per cent return, and secondary schools saw 93.5 per cent return, despite some secondary schools staggering start dates. Across Friday 5 to Monday 8 March there were more than 7,000 Lateral Flow Device tests booked in the public and school testing sites across Southend. This is after parents received a letter from Krishna Ramkhelawon, director of public health for Southend-on-Sea urging them to get themselves and their children tested, in preparation for the return to school and to help stop asymptomatic people unknowingly spreading the virus.
