Chile s Film and TV Production Biz Revs Up Its Engines

After enduring endless months of COVID-19 lockdown, Chile’s film and TV industry is revving up production once more. And several women are leading the charge.
Various high-profile titles are either in production or setting up dates, such as season two of Lucía Puenzo’s hit series “La Jauria” and, starting this month, Francisca Alegria’s debut feature, “The Cow Who Sang a Song About the Future.” Fernando Guzzoni’s “Blanquita” aims to start principal photography by July, says producer Giancarlo Nasi of Quijote Films, who also presides over Chile’s Film Arts Academy, founded in 2018.

Filming has begun on
Spencer, director Pablo LarraÃn s upcoming film that is entirely set over one weekend in the Princess of Wales life before she decides to leave her marriage to Prince Charles. And to mark this production milestone, Shoebox Films has released an image from the film, showing Stewart glancing out the window in full costume.
The window in question is presumably one at the Royal Family s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where the film is set during Christmas holiday. The film was written by
film profile], with the story being set in the days around Christmas at the Sandringham estate, Queen Elizabeth’s private home. Here, Diana will come to terms with her failing marriage and her overall unhappiness, ultimately setting her on a path that would change perceptions of the royal family forever.
Larraín, not being British and thus not overly familiar with the royals, found an offbeat angle for the story. Ensconced in a sprawling 20,000 acre estate, he saw Diana’s arc as an inverted kind of fairy tale: “Usually, the prince comes and finds the princess, invites her to become his wife, and eventually, she becomes the queen. That is the fairy tale. When someone decides not to be the queen and says, ‘I’d rather go and be myself,’ it’s a big, big decision, an upside-down fairy tale.”
