The Bureau of Land Management is taking public comments on a land restoration project in the Shivwits Plateau.
The BLM wants to restore more than 300,000 acres in a remote area north of the Grand Canyon.
To do that, it plans to target 40,000 to 60,000 acres that have the highest need. The bureau will work with the National Park Service and other groups to thin forests and remove invasive plants. Mark Wimmer is with the Bureau of Land Management.
“Past management practices have affected this area, just like much of the West, Wimmer said, and so, trying to make it better for wildlife, that’s one of our partners is Arizona Game and Fish, and they are a proponent of this type of project, and so we’re designing it with mule deer in mind.”
