Valparaiso's newest park is now open | Porter County News

VALPARAISO — Library Rotary Garden, the city’s newest park, was popular even before it opened to the public. The park, which occupies a quarter of a city block at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Michigan Avenue, once housed a drive-thru for Chase Bank. At the end of Chase’s tenure there, it was used only for an ATM to dispense money. Now the site is collecting money. So far, more than $190,000 in private donations have poured into the park. “There’s a plaque next to everything,” Porter County Public Library System board member Stu Summers said. Summers was board president for much of the time the park was under development.

Carroll Council Approves Design Agreements For Parking At Northeast Park And Rec Center Addition And Renovation

Wardell says those decisions will be made in the design process. Lighting and possibly adding more trees could be factored in to help with their privacy and noise concerns. The second agreement discussed and approved is for design services for work at the Carroll Rec Center with RDG Planning and Design. The estimated $7.31 million project includes a $480,000 design fee with an estimated two-year timeline that has construction taking place from Feb. of 2022 to April of 2023. Funding will come from Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.), $1 million in funds that have been set aside from L.O.S.T., and property tax bonds up to $700,000. Council member, LaVern Dirkx, asked Wardell if the walking track would impede basketball play on the courts below.
