Twin suicide bombings leave 28 killed in Baghdad; fear grips war-torn country again
Residents of Karnataka s Shivamogga district were in shock after a massive blast at a stone mining quarry occurred at around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday. A loud boom sound and tremors were felt as far as nearby Chikkamangaluru district, which is nearly 100kms away.
The blast occurred at a quarry in Hunasodu village and is believed to have been from a lorry carrying a load of dynamites. The police have also warned about the possibility of subsequent blasts at the quarry and a bomb disposal squad has been called in.

Five people were killed in an explosion at a stone mining quarry in Karnataka s Shivamogga district, the police control room said. The possibility of subsequent explosions at the quarry at Hunasondi near village Abbalagere has not been ruled out by the police since some dynamite sticks are still live, the police said. Bomb disposal squads have been called in and the entire area has been sealed.

At least eight people were killed in a major blast that shook Karnataka s Shivamogga town on Thursday night. The blast was heard across Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s home district at around 10.15 pm. The explosion was reported at a railway quarry site in Karnataka s Shivamogga district, the police said.
The possibility of subsequent explosions at the quarry at Hunasondi near village Abbalagere has not been ruled out since some dynamite sticks are still live, the police were quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The entire area has been sealed.

According to local reports, vibrations due to the boom were heard even in parts of Chikkamagaluru district and minor damage to property was also reported. The exact cause of the sound is not yet known. No reports of earthquake have been received from the area.
