he was trying to get at as he was talking to the secretary. i actually think the secretary has proved the point here that many of us have been saying over the last couple of days. it doesn t matter what the word was. what it clearly agreed upon, we learned what happened here, is whether he said shithouse or shithole and lindsey graham repeated the work bad back to h it is completely beside the point of what was enraging certain people in the room. the president s approach of how he was thinking about these countries of origin for people that want to immigrate to the united states and that the derogatory way that he was treating them was not what the president of the united states should be thinking of the nations as an ideal in this conversation moving forward. i think that overall was the point and it derailed this
memory hasn t evolved. the discourse right now is pretty low. we re producing some pretty good policy, but those of us in my business need to up their game. it s pretty embarrassing when you have to take your children out of the room just to report the news. reporter: white house officials focussing on semantics for their defense telling cnn that senators tom cotton and david perdue heard mr. trump say shithouse rather than shithole. i don t know if changing the word from hole to house changes the impact. i am stunned that this is their defense. reporter: homeland security secretary will be testifying before the senate judiciary committee in just a few hours. she was among the people in that oval office meeting and has said she does not recall the president using that vulgar language. now, also questioning her are senators dick durbin and lindsey graham who said otherwise. as for that government shutdown,
don, it became too much for even fox because shithole versus shithouse doesn t make it better. it s the shut part that s the problem. it s the belief that countries that are genetically inferior or whatever the reasoning behind this thing is. and even these folks that are having to sort of paper this over and pretend that it didn t happen, they run an existential risk of trump saying, yeah, i said it, so what? he s always got a tendency to go and chase what he thinks his base wants. and that s what he s been reported now from at least two sources have now talked to friends of trump who he called after this meeting and said, oh, this is great. it plays to the base. isn t this awesome? i just think it s a dark moment for us, an unbelievably disappointing moment for these republicans who are out there playing defense on this thing when the people in the room, i m pretty sure, all heard the same thing and i think they re covering and equivocation and multiple stories, they aren t cover
including in hawaii. so i will be asking her some of those questions and i will ask her a number of questions regarding the president s immigration policies which made clear that day that he met with dick durbin and lindsey graham that he wants basically white people to come to our country. so that is your interpretation. you believe it s hard not to have that interpretation. you believe their account of the meeting over some other denials? you mean the account of dick durbin and lindsey graham? yes because i think if the president uses a word like shithole i think you would remember. i am saddened that cotton and purdue are evolving in their recollections and they are enablers to the president s what he said. when you say evolving their recollections
