STC names Laredo College’s Ricardo Solis as sole finalist in search for new president 3 days 13 hours 1 minute ago Wednesday, May 26 2021 May 26, 2021 May 26, 2021 3:07 PM May 26, 2021 in News - Local By: KRGV Digital Share: South Texas College has named Laredo College s Dr. Ricardo Solis as the sole finalist in the college s search for a new president.  The STC Board of Trustees named Solis as the lone finalist during a Tuesday evening board meeting. The motion to approve Solis carried unanimously. Solis will take over for interim STC President David Plummer, who took over following the retirement of Dr. Shirley Reed in January.

This 80-mile stretch of Texas that hugs the river that both separates and connects the U.S. and Mexico was unlike any other place I’d been. There was extreme poverty, but also an ethic of hard work and optimism. Many residents or their parents had come to the U.S. to live the American Dream, and they believed that through hard work they could achieve it.
