Jamestown Fire and Police departments hosted their 6th Annual Battle of the Badges blood drive with Vitalant on Jan. 7-9 at the Civic Center which helped collect a total of 209 units of blood products for patients in need. Team Fire won the Battle with 105 votes over Team Law, which had 102 votes.
A total of 209 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 183 individuals were able to donate at the event. Thirty donors also donated Power Red Cells (2RBC), where two units of red blood cells are collected while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution to the donor. Nineteen people volunteered for the first time.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Team Fire has officially won the 6th Annual Jamestown Battle of the Badges.
The fun competition pitted the Jamestown Police Department against the Jamestown Fire Department to raise awareness and blood donations during the three-day blood drive.
Donor Recruitment Representative Weldon Roberts with Vitalant reports that out of 209 volunteers who signed up, 183 were able to donate with 19 giving blood for the first time. 30 volunteers donated Double Red Cells and 13 gave Convalescent Plasma on the automated machines.
“We were able to collect a total of 209 products and exceed our promise to local hospitals,” Roberts added.
“Team Fire actually had 105 votes and Team Law was correct with 102 votes. It was a very close battle this year and I am very happy with the results. I hope that we will be able to continue the Battle again next year and bring back the sponsors for t-shirts.”
