Laredo school districts continue student vaccinations

In the ongoing effort to vaccinate more students, both LISD and UISD have been doing their part in inviting their students for COVID-19 drive-thru clinics one of which is on Friday for LISD.
According to the district, the Shirley Field clinic invites employees, students and community members to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. This clinic includes children 16 and older.

In the first of several planned collaborations between the Gateway Community Health Center and school systems across Laredo, LISD teachers lined up on Monday outside Shirley Field to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Scores of volunteers and nurses rallied at the field parking lot from both LISD and Gateway to file paperwork, administer the vaccine and monitor the patients for any sign of side effects. LISD executive director of communications Veronica Castillon said that 600 vaccine doses were provided by the health center for teachers who had not received their first dose.

With school districts returning for another semester, a majority of students are still working from home and continue to lose their normal school year to the pandemic.
For some, this may be their last year, which is most likely not like anything they could have ever imagined when they were juniors. For others, the toll of a full virtual learning environment has persisted throughout the school year.
