Zimbabwe Approves Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 Vaccine
Zimbabwe has authorised the emergency use of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine, the first Western-made shot to be approved by the southern African nation.
Until now, the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) had only registered vaccines from India, Russia and China.
MCAZ spokesperson Shingirai Gwatidzo said the emergency use authorisation issued to the Ministry of Health and Child Care was subject to a number of considerations including ensuring an adequate cold storage capacity.
“MCAZ reviewed the technical documentation that was submitted by the manufacturer, and emergency use authorisation was granted and communicated to (the Ministry of Health),” MCAZ spokesman Shingai Gwatidzo said.
