BHUBANESWAR: The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has provided the much-needed boost to rural employment in Ganjam during the pandemic.
The district tops the list of districts in generating person days (PDs) and money spent to undertake labour intensive works in the current financial year.
Ganjam also became the first district to cross generation of 50-lakh person days (PDs) and crossed Rs 74.28-crore expenditure in this labour intensive scheme. It achieved the milestone in only one month as actual work for the current financial year started after April 10, said an officer.
Big boost to mushroom farming in Ganjam Post News Network
Chhatrapur: In a bid to augment income of rural people, particularly women, the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has taken up a major step to boost mushroom cultivation in Ganjam district. The aim is to make the district a mushroom hub. Steps have been taken to set up 503 mushroom farms in the district.
This was informed by DRDA Project Director, Shinde Dattatraya Bhausaheb on Twitter Sunday.
Mushroom farming will provide income opportunities for rural women associated with SHGs.
The DRDA will execute the project through the Odisha Livelihood Mission. SHG members promoted under Mission Shakti will be encouraged to take up mushroom farming.
