CHANDIGARH: It is an opportunistic fungal infection that mostly invades whose immunity is heavily compromised. It can become widespread with the excessive use of anti-bacterial and antifungal agents in people with carcinomas, transplantation and lifestyle diseases such as uncontrolled diabetes. During Covid-19 there is excessive use of steroids, which can increase the blood glucose levels and allow the fungus to invade.
What are the symptoms?
Nasal blockage or congestion, blackish or bloody nasal discharge, local pain on the cheekbone, one-sided facial pain, numbness or swelling, blurred or double vision with pain, blackish discolouration over bridge of nose or palate, chest pain, pleural effusion, worsening of respiratory symptoms.
