事故から21日で20年となり、花火大会を主催した明石市は教訓を伝えるため、事故の現場で、新人職員23人を対象に研修を行いました。
さらに下村さんは、「事故があった年に生まれた人が社会人となり、20年の時の経過を感じますが、当日のことは現場に来ると鮮明に思い出します。事故の当事者である明石市の職員は、安全安心を発信する立場にあると思います。遺族がいなくなっても明石市には発信を続けてほしいですし、それが継承できるようにこれからも活動を続けていきます」と話していました。
