BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) China s poverty alleviation work does more than just create wealth for impoverished residents, it also brings warmth to frontline participants.
Shi Peng, 38, a patent examiner at the National Intellectual Poverty Administration, is one of hundreds of thousands of officials stationed in rural China to spearhead poverty reduction efforts. Since 2017, he has been dispatched to two villages of Sangzhi County, Hunan Province.
Spending four years in a mountainous county, once home to some of the poorest areas in China, would perhaps be seen as a hardship for many, but Shi cherishes it.

CHANGSHA, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) Geographical indication (GI), a type of trademark commonly used in global food and wine markets, is now helping farmers in central China battle poverty.
Sangzhi County, in the city of Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, is known for its distinctive pillar-like peaks and precipitous cliffs that featured in the movie Avatar . With a population of 470,000 and 28 ethnic groups, it was once home to some of the poorest areas in China.
In past decades, many local people left their rural homes to find work in big cities. Only a few stayed in the villages to grow corn or potatoes for a living.
