A Sherwood hospital was partially evacuated, placed on lockdown and surrounded by a police perimeter for almost three hours on Wednesday morning after a fatal shooting on the fourth floor, where the victim was visiting a patient, police said.
Police say a man visiting a patient at a Little Rock-area hospital was shot dead by a person he knew, and the suspect was arrested about an hour later at a gas station. Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Hagar said police found 21-year-old Leighton Whitfield dead Wednesday at CHI St. Vincent in Sherwood. Hagar said 24-year-old Raymond Lovett was arrested in Little Rock and charged with capital murder and aggravated assault. Sherwood is a city of about 33,000 people northeast of Little Rock.
CHI St. Vincent North hospital was under lockdown for an active shooter situation Wednesday morning, but has been lifted following a potential suspect being taken into custody. The suspect was found at a nearby Exxon gas station, after police received a tip late Wednesday morning. One victim was found dead by authorities upon entering the building, but the identity of the victim and the potential suspect have not been released at this time, Sherwood Police Chief Jeff Hagar reported.
