The Sherman Woods Homeowners Association in Port Huron recently reported that its 2023 Red Kettle Christmas season bell ringing raised $8,337 to assist the Port Huron Salvation Army’s annual holiday fundraising campaign.
The Christmas spirit will shine once again this year in Port Huron’s Sherman Woods neighborhood as residents and volunteers will again be manning the Red Kettle to assist the Port Huron Salvation Army in its annual fundraising campaign.
With the holiday season now upon us, a tradition for many in the Blue Water Area is to take an evening drive to see Christmas light displays. Perhaps the most popular neighborhood this time of year is Port Huron's Sherman Woods Subdivision, where spectators will be greeted with hundreds of oversized lighted ornaments decorating the trees that line the north end neighborhood. The increase in traffic this time of year has prompted the neighborhood to put all of that holiday cheer to good use, by raising funds for the Salvation Army. Sherman Woods Homeowners Association President Fred Kemp says the neighborhood collect the funds in a Red Kettle that will be placed at the corner of Armour Street and LaSalle Boulevard. Donations will be accepted Friday and Saturday evenings for the next three weekends. The Salvation Army Band is also expected to perform in the neighborhood and Santa Claus is expected to make several visits too. Last year, $11,000 were raised for the Red Kettle campaign

A local Port Huron Neighborhood is responsible for helping to push the local Salvation Army over the finish line in this year’s Red Kettle campaign. The Sherman Woods Homeowners Association says they raised $11,000 for the Port Huron Salvation Army this year by asking for donations from visitors driving through their subdivision.“The response to the Red Kettle drive in our neighborhood was nothing short of tremendous,” said Fred Kemp, president of the Sherman Woods Homeowners Association. “This is the fifth year we have helped the Red Kettle drive and the funds collected exceeded last year by nearly seven thousand dollars.” In total, over $344,000 were raised this year during the campaign, exceeding the Salvation Army’s $330,000 goal. The funds will be used to provide meals, gifts, and toys for some 600 families and 1200 children in St. Clair County.
