Tourist sector in north Norfolk reacts to lockdown roadmap

Benjie Cabbell Manners, owner of Amazona Zoo in Cromer, said he was thrilled the roadmap meant the zoo would once again be able to welcome visitors from April 12. Mr Cabbell Manners said: We can start to plan for an opening which is safe for our visitors and get everything ready for what we hope will be a busy summer.” Simon Daykin, director of the Wells Maltings, which includes a theatre, art gallery and cafe, said the announcement could only be seen with optimism and he looked forward to being able to hold indoor performances again starting from mid-May.

Lettings business criticises council for lack of support

Penny Jones, from Sheringham-based Crabpot Cottages, said the business was losing tens of thousands of pounds as it had shut voluntarily through November and December in order to help slow the spread of the virus and support the stay local message.  But despite the financial hit they were taking, Mrs Jones said they had not been eligible for a government Local Restrictions Support Grant, which are distributed by authorities including North Norfolk District Council. 

Plea to stay local as cases surge in north Norfolk

She said there had been some people wanting to rent cottages over Christmas in spite of the restrictions. She said: “(Sunday) night I had three requests from people saying ‘we need to get out of London, can we come for the weekend?’ “But we’re sticking to the rules - we had 34 bookings for Christmas and we’ve been through them all and cancelled every one, apart from one which was local. “But the enquiries have tailed off now. I know a lot of second-home owners personally but I don’t know any who are coming up. But there’s always going to be somebody who will break the rules.”
