Benton County Appoints Van Arsdall as Interim Sheriff - The Corvallis Advocate

Benton County Appoints Van Arsdall as Interim Sheriff January 21, 2021 Benton County commissioners voted unanimously (3-0) today to appoint current Baker County Undersheriff Jefri Van Arsdall to fill the position of Interim Benton County Sheriff for the remainder of Sheriff Scott Jackson’s current term.  Van Arsdall’s appointment is contingent on his meeting all the requirements to be Benton County Sheriff, which includes passing an extensive background check. The background check can take up to three weeks to complete. During the interim between Sheriff Jackson’s departure and Van Arsdall’s background check completion, Benton County Undersheriff Greg Ridler will act in-capacity as Benton County Sheriff.

Benton County Appoints Interim Sheriff

Jefri Van Arsdall will become Benton County s interim sheriff after passing a background check. Credit Benton County   Commissioners selected Jefri Van Arsdall, who is the current undersheriff of Baker County in eastern Oregon. Van Arsdall will serve until a new Benton County sheriff is chosen by voters in November of 2022. Jackson is retiring February 1st after 25 years with the Benton County sheriff’s office.   Before his stint in Baker County, Van Arsdall worked for more than a decade as an officer with the Corvallis Police Department. County commissioners cited that experience in announcing Van Arsdall s hire.  Tags:

Benton County Sheriff Jackson Retires December 9, 2020 On Dec. 8, Benton County announced that Sheriff Scott Jackson will retire on February 1, 2021.  Jackson began his career at the Sheriff’s Office in 1995 as a part-time, on-call Deputy, and was promoted to a full-time position within a few months. He was sworn-in as Sheriff on July 1, 2013. Since that time, Benton County voters have elected him to the position in 2014 and 2018.   According to the Benton County press release, Jackson “holds dual certifications in corrections and police through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) and has held multiple positions within the Sheriff’s Office including Deputy, Corporal, Sergeant, Training/Policy Sergeant, Lieutenant (Jail Commander), and in 2008 was promoted to Undersheriff where he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.“
