interference. this just adds to that narrative that the entire justice system is ganging up on trump. i think politically, this helps him in the primary big-time. let s be honest, the race could be over by the time we get, before we get to super tuesday even effectively. so, voters may not even have the benefits of seeing this trial go to its conclusion. frankly the only thing that appears to move some republican primary voters is the possibility that he is convicted. but, i don t think conviction will come until the nomination is dropped up. so, it ll be about how independent and suburban voters who are critical to biden s victory in 2020 view the charges against him and the trial a general action. the integration they have now maybe the information they have going into the voting booth. thank you all very much for being with us tonight. up next for us, new video showing the jackson shooter before his recent attack at dollar general store. i ll speak with a sheriff of jacksonville
60 years ago tomorrow in front of the lincoln memorial in washington d.c., dr. martin luther king delivered his famous i have a dream speech. quote, i have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character, and quote. yesterday, three black americans were murdered simply because of the color of their skin. law enforcement is investigating yesterday s shooting at dollar general in jacksonville, florida as a hate crime. the three victims, two men and one woman, were all black. the gunman was way. the sheriff of jacksonville says the shooter, quote, hated black people, end quote, and left a manifesto detailing his disgusting ideology of hate, end quote. he used a handgun and as is always the case these days an ar-15 style rifle marked with swastikas. earlier this morning, my msnbc colleague katie fang spoke with the florida state senator tracy davis whose district includes jacks
jacksonville s history. any loss of life is tragic but the hate that motivated the shooter s killing spree adds an additional layer of heartbreak. there is no place for hate in our community and this is not jacksonville. that was the sheriff of jacksonville. stewart moore, a journalist the wesh tv station in orlando, florida told us more about what we know about the identity of the gunman. the person responsible was in his 20s. he travelled about 30 to a0 miles north from where he lived to carry out the shooting, and as was mentioned by the sheriff, he killed three people, three black people. and this was racially motivated, leaving a message telling his parents right before the shootings happened. his parents actually alerted law enforcement, but at that point, it was simply too late. we ve also heard a response from the governor at this hour, saying there is no place for that type of hate in this state. but a lot of critics are coming down
safety bill what are you trying to achieve? remember what we have and we have to take a step back here so back in december the congress actually passed the fix nix bill maria: it s a background check. the national instant criminal background check because when you go back to the texas shooting mr. kelly down there, he never should have been able to have a weapon because he was dishonorably discharged for actually beating his wife. there were two offences there he never should have been able to go through but our own military did not update it so what we re looking at is updating making sure these bad people cannot have guns. that is sitting over in the senate. now we re adding to it this week , we have a former sheriff of jacksonville congressman rutherford who stopped school silence and this is more for training within the schools to identify these individuals because look what the fbi did with this last shooter nikolas cruz? five months prior, nikolas cruz goes on youtube and put
passed back in december that is sitting over in the senate. bill: i don t think this killer had a criminal record. whether it s bump stocks, background checks on the criminal side or mentally ill side can you legislate all that now? we can t legislate everything if we are going to change but we can legislate to improve the background check. if you look at this individual and the shooter in texas as well, there are places that there are holes that we need to make sure we clean up and also a place we can look at former sheriff of jacksonville. a congressman now. he has proposed actually different grants within the school funding to be able to help protect the schools from that point. those are places we should look at. the atf. congress and senate never even voted on the idea of a bump stock. that s something that was approved through the atf. we ve directed the atf to revise it, take it back and that should be done. but there are ways that we should look at this and then we passed a
