Gov. Tony Evers has appointed Dr. Denita Ball as Milwaukee County sheriff. The appointment fills a vacancy created by Sheriff Earnell Lucas’ resignation, effective Oct. 23. Ball will complete the remainder of the term, which ends Jan. 2.
Denita Ball won the Democratic primary for Milwaukee County sheriff Tuesday, and with no Republican challenger in November, she becomes Milwaukee County's first female sheriff and the first Black woman to serve as sheriff in the state of Wisconsin.
