Law enforcement marks National Night Out
ROANOKE, Va. – Communities across the country, and right here in our area gathered for National Night Out on Tuesday. They gather with police for a common goal, help prevent crime and make some new friends along the way.
National Night Out is back after a missed year due to COVID-19. A good crowd showed up in Lexington and also in Franklin County, where Sheriff Bill Overton said events like this play a big role in their strategy.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office will hold a ceremony today for Operation Christmas Joy. As we’ve reported, due to the pandemic, normal fundraisers were cancelled this year. So, the sheriff’s office partnered with churches to raise money to get gifts for around 20 families this year. Today, Sheriff Bill Overton will make a few remarks before the gifts are given out. Those receiving gifts from the program were nominated by the school system.
