Sheriff s Office introduces new location app
MARION - The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has become the first agency in Ohio to roll out What3Words, a location technology app to locate people who are lost or may not know where they are, so help can be sent.
What3Words has divided the world into a grid of 10’ X 10’ squares and given each square a unique what3words address. If someone calls in, for example, who has been involved in an accident and they don’t know where they are, dispatch can send them a mobile link through the sheriff s office texting 911 software. This link to the What3Words app will show on their phone, they can relay those words to the dispatcher and the dispatcher plugs those words into the app. Authorities will now know where that person is within 10 feet of their exact location. Emergency services then can be sent to render aid.
