County officials in a bind on COVID-19 immunizations as state officials fumble over vaccine rollout

PENDLETON — As state health officials look to ramp up and broaden vaccination efforts across Oregon, Umatilla County officials are concerned that the efforts won’t be a cure-all for the already dwindling quantity of vaccines making their way to the arms of county residents. The shift on the state level comes as Gov. Kate Brown announced on Tuesday, Jan. 12, that she will permit Oregonians older than 65 and childcare, preschool and K-12 school employees to start receiving the vaccine on Jan. 23 in an effort to speed up immunizations to 12,000 daily by Sunday, Jan. 17. The effort comes as state health officials endure mounting pressure due to the sluggish start to vaccination efforts.

Oregon Health Authority lists weekly workplace outbreaks

SALEM — Oregon Health Authority’s weekly report on COVID-19 outbreaks in the state shows nine new workplace outbreaks in Umatilla and Morrow counties in the first two weeks of November. In OHA’s weekly report, outbreaks are reported at workplaces with at least 30 employees that have had at least five cases linked to them, including employees who tested positive and close contacts of those employees, such as family members. An outbreak is considered active until the site has gone at least 30 days with no new cases, at which time the workplace is taken off the list, and new cases in the future are considered the start of a new outbreak.
