SMITH COUNTY, Texas More than 7,000 vaccines have been wasted in Texas according to recent data from the Department of State Health Services (DSHS). There are many reasons why these shots never made it into someone’s arm.
Providers are also required to report why any dose isn t usable. Common reasons are that they simply expired, a natural disaster happened, a power outage or refrigeration issues. The Centers for Disease Control say these vaccines can be left at room temperature for up to six hours. After that, if you don t use it, you lose it.

LONGVIEW, Texas CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System has opened new appointments for COVID-19 vaccination at the CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Vaccination Hub site in Longview.
These added appointments are for this Sunday, March 21.
Appointments are required. However, in the event that someone does not show up for their scheduled appointment, notification of available vaccines will be posted that same day on the CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System Facebook Page, City of Longview page, and Mayor Mack’s page at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
Once an appointment has been made, individuals are asked to adhere to the clinic operational guidelines to support the efficiency and safety of the caregivers and other community residents alike:
Texans between the ages of 50 and 64 are now eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine, according to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KSLA) - About 1,500 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines were administered in Longview on Saturday, Jan. 30.
CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System teamed up with the city of Longview and Gregg County to host the vaccination clinic.
âItâs not any different than running to a structure fire, running to a bad vehicle accident, running to a medical emergency,â said J. P. Steelman, Longview fire chief. âThis is an emergency thatâs been impacting our community for close to a year now. Now that weâve turned that corner and we have some other options to help treat and take care of this community, itâs just a natural process for what we do and helping people her
