PORTLAND, Ore. May Day demonstrations took place throughout Portland on Saturday, and more are expected later in the day.
May 1 is International Workers Day, a traditional day for marches, demonstrations and rallies in the Portland area.
In the morning, dozens gathered at Holladay Park in Northeast Portland to support the PRO Act, a bill that expands various labor protections related to employees rights to organize and collectively bargain in the workplace.
May Day demonstrations played out across the city of Portland Saturday. Events were scheduled atHolladay Park, Downtown, Peninsula Park, Salmon Springs Fountain, and Shemanski Park at various times during the afternoon and evening. Police declare riot in downtown Portland on May Day
SYNDICATED 5 hours ago PORTLAND, Ore. – Two separate groups took to the street Saturday night and clashed with law enforcement, prompting authorities to declare a riot downtown and an unlawful assembly in south Portland. PORTLAND, Ore. Police declared a riot in downtown Portland Saturday night during two planned May Day demonstrations associated with anti-police anarchists.
Two events promoted as autonomous demonstrations were scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., one at Shemanski Park in downtown and the other at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building near the South Waterfront.
