within the country and more than 1.3 million refugees in poland. nearly 35,000 people were rescued via humanitarian corridors according to ukraine s president. russia says it will allow for civilian evacuations daily, but all of those roads will lead toward russia. we ve seen russia attack some of the corridors previously and even block them in some instances. my next guest is president of shelter box usa, a global disaster relief nonprofit. she s been on the ground addressing humanitarian needs in krakow, poland. tell us what you ve been witnessing as the refugees arrive. it s unbelievable. i ve been working down on the border on the ukraine/poland border, a few miles over into poland. i ve been at the main train station where 20,000 new people come in every single day, and it s absolutely harrowing. what i ve witnessed is it s mostly women. it s mostly children. it s elderly.
on the border hasheem people the train station. this is the main stop for people who are fleeing ukraine and every day 20000 people get off at that platform. when i was there, i saw women, children, elderly, disabled. these are very vulnerable people who ve really been ripped apart from their families. so men between the ages of 18 to 60 have had to stay behind. they ve literally come to a platform. it s traveling many, many days with everything they have on them. is their clothes a small bag maybe with them. but it s just unbelievable to see. now poland has one point two million refugees and there s to over two million. all told, the u.n. is estimating there could be seven million. so these neighboring countries that are receiving refugees, it s becoming really overwhelming for them. okay, kerry, i m sorry. we re running really short of time here. you re doing great work. shelter box usa can be found online.
