Councillors had one main concern about horses using pathways alongside people on foot or on bikes. “What about defecation?” asked councillor Emma Clarke. Schimpf said the correct etiquette taught in equestrian circles was for the rider to stop, dismount, and kick the horse’s droppings into grass at the side of the path. “It’s just mixed-up grass anyway,” he said. “Some people think we can’t live together, but in my experience, we get on very well.” Warwick said some people also raised concern about whether it was safe to have horses, cyclists and pedestrians on the same path.
