Northland preschools are weighing in on a proposal by President Joe Biden that would provide free preschool to three and four year olds nationwide.
The $1.8 trillion proposal is called the American Families Plan.
In addition to providing free preschool, the proposal aims to provide two years of free community college to students.
Both programs would be funded by tax payers and available to people regardless of income.
Shelly Vanneste, owner of Mesabi Preschool Academy, acknowledged that free pre-school could help parents. At the same time, however, she said it could put her and others in the industry out of business by taking three and four year olds out of the mix, who equate for the majority of money coming into preschools.
