The beginnings of a Lahaina wildfire victims compensation fund were announced Wednesday by Gov. Josh Green, three months after the disaster that killed at least 99 people.
A new recovery fund which will exceed $150 million, will distribute money to families of those who died, and to those who suffered severe personal injuries in the Maui wildfires.
The program means those who lost family members or were injured in the Lahaina fire could receive payments of more than $1 million by the spring. But by participating they'd waive the right to sue.
