An attorney for the city of Memphis said they adhere to the five-year residency opinion authored by Robert Meyers, prompting a chancellor to add them to the suit.
“These are all important conversations that we all need to be having,” said Kathryn Winsley, one Memphian who attended Saturday's forum with mayoral candidates said.
The charter amendment cleared the Memphis City Council Tuesday and will go before the public in 2024. It does not apply to candidates in the 2023 mayoral race.
