Uptown Shelby, in conjunction with the Carolinas Airstream Club, is set to host the inaugural Shelby Airstream Parade and Open House which begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
The idea was sparked by Shelby native Roger Holland who wanted the city to play host to a unique event while generating revenue for local businesses. According to Holland, Airstream rallies are held to revive small towns. Holland is hopeful this weekend’s festivities will provide a jolt of revenue for Shelby business owners.
“A few years back somebody said why don’t we have an Airstream rally in a town in the Midwest where the center of cities were dying,” said Holland. “They will get to see all types of different Airstreams, and it’s a way to booster the local economy of a small town.”
