The students of Sheila Granthamâs class received a distinguished guest last Friday in the library of Clements/Parsons Elementary â U.S. Congressman Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin.
Williams, who represents Copperas Cove as part of the 25th House District at the U.S. House of Representatives, visited the students because they all wrote him letters in February.
Grantham introduced her students to a book called âOil Spillâ that discussed the Exxon Valdez oil spill on March 24, 1989.
âI donât know if they thought theyâd get an answer back or whatever â we try to accommodate all of them â so we decided to speak to the young children today just to meet with them and talk to them,â Williams said after the children had been released back to class.
COPPERAS COVE â Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, who represents the 25th District of Texas in Washington, D.C., paid a visit to a third-grade class in Copperas Cove Friday morning.
Students in teacher Sheila Granthamâs class at Clements/Parsons Elementary School wrote letters to Williams earlier in the year after reading a book about the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Williams engaged in a Q&A session with the students Friday for about 30 minutes. All students were eager to ask questions of Williams about a variety of topics including how he became a congressman, leadership in Congress and oil spills and the environment.
