Advertisement The Mufti of Uganda sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje Thursday called for unity among Ugandans and urged the president and the government to release all political prisoners. “Let them be released, let them enjoy their freedom with families. Some of them are Muslims and would love to celebrate Eid with their families,” Sheikh Mubajje said during Eid prayers at Uganda National Mosque, Old Kampala before reechoing president Museveni’s message that elections are over.

Muslims demand new govt to protect people and their property

In his message during Eid prayers at Kibuli mosque, Sheikh Mahmood Kibaate, the deputy Supreme Mufti, says in the just concluded 5 th term of president Museveni, many people lost their lives adding that majority of these deaths were perpetrated by security officers especially LDUs. Kibaate says after taking oath for the 6 th term, they expect the president to lead a whole new government which should focus on protecting Ugandans. President Museveni was sworn in for the 6 th term at Kololo independence grounds. He is expected to soon announce a new cabinet of minister whom he will work with for the new term.

Why Supreme Mufti Ndirangwa resigned

Daily Monitor Saturday April 03 2021 Summary Sheikh Ndirangwa assumed the position following the abrupt death of his predecessor Sheikh Zubair Kayongo in April 2015.  Advertisement The head of the Muslim sect based at Kibuli Hill in Kampala, Sheikh Silman Kasule Ndirangwa, announced on Thursday evening that he had resigned as the Supreme Mufti.    Sheikh Ndirangwa assumed the position following the abrupt death of his predecessor Sheikh Zubair Kayongo in April 2015.  Sheikh Ndirangwa was the second to assume the title of Supreme Mufti of the Kibuli faction, which in 2009 broke ranks with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) leadership at Old Kampala amid accusations of abuse of Muslim properties.
