‘HEC regional offices being run on ad hoc basis’

During the last three years in the federal Higher Education Commission (HEC), where the most important post of executive director (ED) has not been permanently filled, the regional offices in the provinces have also been run on an ad hoc basis, it has been learnt.
There is a mockery of merit as 17th grade assistant directors or 18th grade deputy directors have been appointed instead of 19th or 20th grade directors general or directors. According to details, Shafi-ur-Rehman, assistant director of Grade 17 in Regional Centre Peshawar, Ahsan Hameed, assistant director Grade 17 in Regional Centre Quetta, Hakeem Talpur, deputy director Grade 18 in Regional Centre Karachi, and Shehzad Abbasi at Regional Centre Lahore have been posted during last three years. The Bahawalpur sub office was closed last year.
Commissioner wants storm water drains remodelled soon

The deputy commissioners, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials and other relevant departments and officials have been ordered to expedite the remodelling of the Mehmoodabad Nullah, the Gujjar Nullah and the Orangi Nullah with coordinated efforts, as well as ensure the work is completed as soon as possible.
Karachi Commissioner Navid Ahmed Shaikh chaired a meeting on Tuesday to review the progress of the KMCâs ongoing operation to clear the storm water drains of encroachments.
According to a press statement issued by the commissionerâs office, the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) Association had also been invited to share their concerns so that they could be taken on board to ensure a smoother operation. Islamabad: The Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan (AKFP) organised a charity dinner for orphan children that was attended by businessmen and notable of the federal capital here on Saturday night.
The charity dinner was attended by Sardar Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, renowned poet Amjad Islam Amjad, donors, Rizwan Ahmed, Hamid Athar Malik, Altaf Sher, Dr Baqir Khakwani, Nasrullah Randhawa, Zubair Safdar, Shehzad Abbasi, Azhar Ali, children and His mother and other loved ones attended.
Addressing the charity dinner on the occasion, Hamid Athar Malik, President Al-Khidmat Foundation Islamabad said that Al-Khidmat Foundation is using all its resources to serve the suffering humanity without any discrimination.
Al Khidmat signs MoU

Islamabad:A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF) Islamabad and the Department of Rehabilitation and Science of Ta meer-e-Millat University to facilitate orphans.
Secretary General Al-Khidmat Foundation Altaf Sher, Dr Muhammad Baqir Khan Khakwani, Azhar Shah, Shehzad Abbasi and Bilal Anwar also graced the occasion. Under the agreement, the Department of Rehabilitation and Science (Department of Rehabilitation and Science), in collaboration with the Khidmat Foundation, will provide all kinds of rehabilitation facilities to orphans.
The Department of Rehabilitation and Science Service will organize fitness camps for children, their parents and staff at various events. The Department of Rehabilitation and Science Service will also provide full rehab facilities at the Razi Hospital of the Foundation. Razi will also train the staff.
