infections are expected to increase even further as more people return from holiday gatherings. correspondent jonathan serrie has that story from atlanta. after taking a backseat to covid throughout much of the pandemic, the flu has returned with this year s season already causing more than 7 million illnesses, 73,000 hospitalizations, and 4500 deaths according to the cdc. emergency room visits for respiratory infection suggests rsv activity has started to decline while the number of flu patients has surged past covid by 37%. experts say this is not a reflection on the severity of this season s flu viruses but the shear quantity of cases. flu is so dominant that there are more patients with influenza, milder infections that can go home but also people that need hospitalization. so i would say right this moment flu is causing more severe
