a case that is not only about hernandez. it s a story about two sisters. hernandez s fiance met him in high school. she s two years older than her younger sister. her younger sister is the girlfriend of odin lloyd. in fact, odin lloyd and aaron hernandez only knew each other because these two sisters divided by just two years went to high school with aaron hernandez, have known aaron hernandez for years. they now have been divided by this murder case. and so interesting thing to kind of pay attention to is will the younger sister take the stand? will she get on the stand in that courtroom and talk about odin lloyd and talk about how this has impacted her. she s estranged from her older sister that got on the stand. the older sister, shayanna jenkins is facing a count of perjury, a felony charge for lying allegedly 26 times to the grand jury so this case is far
surveillance video showing hernandez carrying what is believed to be a glock pistol in his home the night of the murder still jurors say they feel confident with their verdict. going by the law, we didn t need the murder weapon. he was a 23-year-old kid who had witnessed something, a shocking killing, committed by somebody he knew. reporter: closing arguments taking a twist when the defense hints that hernandez saw a crime but that he didn t do it pinning it on his friends, earnest wallace and carlos ortiz, high on pcp, who the defense says committed the murder. both are scene on surveillance video with hernandez before and after lloyd s murder. they pleaded not guilty and are being tried separately. prosecutors argue hernandez was not an innocent bystander. he s the one who then controls the time of the killing outside the car and then effectuates the plan for the escape. reporter: hernandez s mother and fiancee comforting each other as he is put in handcuffs.
he was the big brother that everybody would love to have. today my sister isn t here so i ll speak on her behalf as well. these last couple of years have been the hardest time of our lives. at the age of 25 i was asked to write my brother s eulogy, the hardest thing i have ever done in my life. i wrote it with a smile because i got to write all of the great memories that i had of him. i got to tell everyone how he wore the same adidas flip-flops for 12 years until there were no soles on them and his feet were touching the ground. as much as i asked him to buy a
everyone out there will forgive my son s murderers. reporter: terry hernandez weeping. hernandez s fiancee, shayanna jenkins, is the sister of the victim s girlfriend. hernandez sitting down after the verdict is read his face emotionless. defense attorneys maintaining the rising football star would never kill his friend odin lloyd. aaron hernandez was planning a future, not a murder. you re committed for the term of your natural life. reporter: hernandez found guilty on three counts first-degree murder and two weapons charges. sentenced to life behind bars. in my opinion, the firearm shown in the video still is a glock pistol. reporter: but the gun used to kill lloyd has never been found.
jenkins, his fiance. she had a very serious look on her face and so did he. on the opposite side of the courtroom is the victim s mother ursula. some people might wonder why haven t we had a verdict by now? it s not hard to really question if you think about how long this trial has been underway since last january. there are more than 430 exhibits to consider so there s a lot of work to be done. and, carol, kind of winding things up here. you mentioned that photographer. he is now banned from covering this trial anymore after the judge said he should not have been following jurors to their parking spot although he said he did not speak them and did not photograph them. as you said you just can t do that carol. no you don t approach jurors. they have a right to privacy at this time. you approach them after all is said and done and you wrap up the case. it s like journalism 101. susan candiotti, thanks so much. i appreciate it. still to come in the
