TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) Terre Haute Police Department volunteered as bell ringers for the Salvation Army s Red Kettle campaign at Rural King in Terre Haute on Saturday.
Officers rotated shifts from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. in front of the store and spent time interacting with customers as they entered and exited the store.
Terre Haute Police Chief , Shawn Keen, said volunteering allows them the chance to give back outside of their everyday jobs. I think this last year has been tough on just about everybody. This is the time of year that i think we need to do more of this and give back. Our community has always been so great to us and we re trying to do something to pay that back, he said.

A police chief in Indiana ordered a sergeant to be put on administrative leave after he declared on Facebook that “we ought to nuke China”.
Sgt. Bradley Newman of the Terre Haute Police Department made the remark on his personal Facebook page in reaction to the coronavirus, reports the Trib Star.
“Is it just me or does anyone think we ought to nuke China. This virus wasn’t an accident. Kind of tired of the United States allowing people to walk all over us then wondering why people don’t look at us as a superpower. China needs to be held accountable!” he wrote.
