Norman “Russ” Anderson Jr, 88, of Duluth, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Marywood in Kenwood with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was born March 28, 1934 in Duluth, raised in Esko, MN until age 12 when the family moved to Duluth’s West End. He graduated from Denfeld H.S. in 1952 and was a proud honorary Esko 1952 grad, attending both school’s reunions. During his senior year he enlisted in the Naval Reserves, served two years active duty with the Seabee’s, and was honorably discharged in 1960. He began his 28-year civilian job at Bridgeman Creameries after high school and transitioned to the Water and Gas retiring in 1996. Russ began racing stock cars in 1954 and won the city championship in 1960 at the former Duluth Speedway. When his son Rusty began racing stock cars in the 80’s, Russ was in his glory being the crew chief. Russ had a deep passion for old Fords and Flathead engines.
