COAL TWP. A 41-year-old man died in a garage fire here Monday morning, authorities said. The victim was identified as Shawn Guschel of West Lynn Street in the township, according to Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley. The garage on Chestnut Street is at the rear of Guschel’s home, Kelley said. The victim succumbed to carbon monoxide toxicity, the coroner added.
Shamokin area man killed in garage fire while working on a motorcycle

SHAMOKIN – A Shamokin area man perished Monday in a garage fire that officials said was caused by gasoline igniting.
Shawn Guschel, 41, of West Lynn Street in Coal Twp., was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:12 a.m. Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley listed the cause of death as carbon monoxide toxicity.
Coal Twp. Fire Chief Russ Feese told The News-Item in Shamokin that Guschel was working on a motorcycle in the garage at the rear of his home when the blaze broke out. He was unable to get out because a back door was blocked, he said.
