accused boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev is about to go on trial for his life. now 21 tsarnaev will be in court in boston just a few minutes from now for a pretrial hearing. jury selection slated to begin on the 5th of january. he was last seen when he was formally charged with a marathon bombing that killed three and injured hundreds more. nbc news justice correspondent pete williams. reporter: for nearly two years, dzhokhar tsarnaev has been held at a federal prison facility about 40 miles west of boston. today will be his first time back in court since july 2013. when he was formally charged and pleaded not guilty to the bombings that killed three people injured 260 others and to the murder of shawn collier, an m.i.t. police officer.
certainly think that we have to build up a better relationship between young people people of color and people in law enforcement. there is distrust that exists on both sides. there s misunderstanding that exists on both sides. we have to come up with ways in which we bridge the gaps so that people don t demonize other people. so people understand on both sides that there are people trying to do the best that they can. we re not at a stage where i can honestly say truthfully say if you re a person of color, you should not be concerned about any interaction that you have with the police in the same way i can t say to a police officer you shouldn t worry about what community you are being asked to operate in. so there is work that our nation has to do. it is what the president has asked me to do in going around the nation having these interactions, and it is what we as an administration are committed to doing. to building trust that does not
