The University of California, Davis, Department of Viticulture and Enology has received a $4 million endowment that will provide support in perpetuity for the kind of research and education that has made the department world renowned in its field. The endowment, given anonymously, will fund unique projects that use and further develop analytical tools, advanced technologies and techniques, and equipment.
The art scene at the University of California, Davis, just got even better.
In their first major commitment to UC Davis, philanthropists Kellie and Jeff Hepper ’79 have pledged $1 million to create the Hepper Family Exhibition Fund, an endowed gift to support the core exhibition work of the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.
This is the largest gift made to the museum by an alumnus, and it will help create public exhibitions and exhibition-related programming for all to enjoy at the Manetti Shrem Museum.
“Kellie and Jeff Hepper embody the spirit of UC Davis: They are serious about playful creativity, and it shows in their wonderful contemporary art collection,” said Rachel Teagle, founding director of the Manetti Shrem Museum.

They bring to 166 the total number of Chancellor’s Fellows who have been named in the program’s 21-year history, with funding from the UC Davis Annual Fund, Davis Chancellor’s Club and UC Davis Parents Fund.
“We are also thankful for our donors, who recognize the excellence of our early career faculty and provide the kind of support that allows them to flourish,” Chancellor May said.
Shaun Keister, vice chancellor of Development and Alumni Relations, said Chancellor’s Fellows awards are particularly noteworthy because the funding is unrestricted. “It gives our faculty members the flexibility to take their work in new and exciting directions,” he said.
