FALL RIVER An Easton woman charged with causing a high-speed collision that claimed the lives of an elderly East Bridgewater couple in 2019 is scheduled to stand trial next month.
At a trial assignment conference hearing last week, a jury-waived trial date was set for May 24. A final pretrial conference is scheduled first on May 7 to ensure the case is ready to proceed to trial.
Vazquez and her attorney, Jason Maloney, have requested a bench trial before a judge rather than a jury. Vazquez was set to go to trial on at least three other occasions since December, but was rescheduled each time due to COVID-19 safety concerns on one occasion and at the request of both the defense and prosecution on another.
