For immediate release: June 4, 2021
LANSING, MI - Governor Gretchen Whitmer has proclaimed June as Michigan Dairy Month, coinciding with National Dairy Month, to celebrate the state s dairy farmers and dairy processors; to recognize the dairy industry s contribution to the state s economy; and to promote the health and nutrition benefits of dairy products. Michigan s dairy industry is one of our largest agricultural industries that supports nearly 40,000 jobs both on and off the farm and has an annual economic impact of $15.7 billion, said Whitmer. This Dairy Month, we recognize Michigan s incredible dairy farms, many that are family owned for multiple generations, for producing wholesome, delicious products for Michiganders and people around the world.

Michigan s dairy farmers, through the United Dairy Industry of Michigan, turned 2020 s challenges into an opportunity to support communities and connect with consumers. UDIM s actions helped put essential dairy foods into the hands of those who needed it and also helped build stronger, virtual relationships with consumers. Michigan dairy farmers are passionate about providing nutritious dairy foods people enjoy, and they care deeply for their communities, said Sharon Toth, CEO of UDIM. This year dealt a unique set of circumstances to everyone, I m proud that the UDIM team quickly got creative – finding ways to put dairy at the forefront and helping those throughout our state.
