A subdivision consent for a Hardings Road property near Blenheim has been refused due to flood and liquefaction risk.
New information about Marlborough’s liquefaction risk is expected to help clarify rules for people looking to build east of Blenheim. Mapping of liquefaction-prone land must be finished by all councils by November 28, as part of changes to the Building Code bringing in regulations already used in Canterbury following the Christchurch earthquakes. Buildings on liquefaction-prone land will need particular types of foundations, and new builds must be designed to withstand liquefaction, under the new regulations. The mapping is expected to help councils, building consent authorities and engineers make consistent decisions.
